The purpose of the USABLE project is to develop
a course on the usability of Web applications. Usability is also the capability
of the website to deliver a satisfactory user experience. The target public
is students of informatics and communications sciences, and people working
in the electronic media and Web communications.
Thanks to a special learning environment, students find out at once what
are the factors involved in evaluating the usability of Web applications.
Group projects enable them to exchange and compare the results of analyses,
so that they become familiar with the advantages as well as the limits
of various methodological approaches. The course forms an important link
between the methodological findings of universities, and those of specialists
operating in the new media.
The project is coordinated by the TEC-Lab of the Faculty of Communication
Sciences at the University of Lugano (USI) and Institute for Hygiene and
Applied Physiology at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH),
which have both wide experience in conducting and evaluating empirical
analyses in the area of user-friendliness. The Institute’s curriculum
already includes courses on usability.
