  Latinum electronicum

Basle University (Project Leader),
Zurich and Neuchâtel Universities,
USI Lugano,
Abroad: Princeton University

Students who never had Latin at school and who need it for their studies can learn it when they start university.

Latinum electronicum is meant to supplement basic Latin teaching at universities initially, and perhaps even replace it ultimately. The course gives students a grounding in Latin grammar, enabling them to understand and translate simple texts.

It also provides an introduction to the cultural history of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages. As a stable language with a clear grammar, Latin is ideally suited for computer-assisted learning. Vocabulary, grammar and translations can be assessed by students themselves or a tutor. The course is intended to serve all of the three main language groups in Switzerland.
