PRESS: 3) Integration within teaching

«PRESS is part of the ‘Integrative Plant Sciences’ module of the Plant Science Centre of the Universities of Zurich, Basel and the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Courses in this module give credit points to students at all three universities that participate in the master’s programmes, which then facilitates horizontal mobility for students in plant sciences.

The PRESS distance-learning course is a key ingredient in the ‘Master Studies and Courses in Plant Sciences’. This programme will start in the 2006/2007 winter semester. The Plant Science Centre of the Universities of Zurich and Basel and the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich will offer various courses and studies from the partner institutes which students can combine as they wish.

The module ‘Integrative Plant Sciences’ is a building block in this programme – of which PRESS is also a part – which gives students an opportunity to get an broad overview of the subject of plant sciences and the research carried out by the participating institutions. All courses in the module ‘Integrative Plant Sciences’ are taught jointly by tutors of the participating institutions. This module also gives credit points to students in all the participating study programmes of the Universities of Zurich and Basel and the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, so that horizontal mobility is guaranteed.
The integration of the PRESS course in the curricula of the participating institutions was part of our concept from the start.»
